Our Mahi Make @ Home Ingredients is a collection of individual ingredients, packs, containers and recipes to give you a non toxic cleaning regime you are in control of. 

We have taken Grandma's recipes and updated them a little, ensuring they retain ingredients considered non toxic to you and the environment, but increasing the cleaning and disinfecting properties on some of the more traditional ingredients.

So our cleaners do the Mahi - not you!

We do not use any synthetic detergent agents, fillers, synthetic preservatives, chemicals, fragrance oils, or other scientifically proven and well recognised synthetic ingredients known as endocrine disruptors, neurotoxins or immunotoxins.  

We recognise any ingredient used in any product can however be an irritant, allergen, or cause problems for some people, and we suggest when changing to any product, ours or otherwise, caution is used.

Our products are safe on the environment and in septic systems.  

We are constantly researching and staying informed to ensure our products continue to meet the highest health and safety protocols, and also do the job they are intended to do - properly!

There are continual studies being done around ingredients.  Used properly, in recommended quantities, essential oils are safe and non irritant. We use only the highest grade food oils cold pressed directly from plants, and essential oils, mostly organic, and never fragrance oils or synthetic lab derived “natural” ingredients.

 

All ingredients are packaged either in glass or paper.  Every single bit of packaging can be reused by us, so we ask you to save and return it.  Find out how to do that here.

Some differences to our ingredients and recipes:

1. Vinegar is not as prevalent in our recipes as you might think.  Vinegar has very limited disinfecting qualities and while it is a good cleaner, it is also highly acidic and can be very damaging to surfaces, and perish seals in washing machines and dishwashers which can then lead to void warranties on appliances.

2. We do endorse the use of naturally brewed ethanol, however this is NOT methanol - and most of the alcohol on the market is methanol, which is dangerous.  Our 99% proof alcohol has been denatured with a safe additive which will not damage the body.  

3. We do not use or endorse the use of Borax.  There are more effective ingredients now and Borax is a banned substance in USA by the FDA and the EU in Europe based upon claims of impacts on reproductive health.  See the EWG score here 

 5.  Our Kahuku Liquid Castile should not be mixed with vinegar.  Kahuku Liquid Castile made properly formulated as a Castile without modern day synthetic ingredients. It is slightly alkaline, and vinegar is acidic. The result is that the vinegar will cause the Liquid Castile to separate and turn into a curdle!  This is not a fault of either product, it's just basic chemistry, and if your soap doesn't curdle in vinegar, then it is not a true Castile.
